Super Food!

Beauty comes from within.

Scientific skin care, lotions and potions...they're all great, but by eating ‘super foods’ for healthy skin you'll not only look younger but you will feel better too. Below I’ve listed eight ‘super food secrets’ that you can incorporate into your diet which will help erase lines, keep your complexion glowing and give you beautiful skin :

*    Egg Whites for protein to produce collagen. Egg whites have long been known as an immunity booster. Recent studies show that egg whites are a great source of zinc. Zinc is an essential mineral that keeps the skin young, firm and vital. If you're zinc deficient, all the skin care applications in the world won't cover basic healthy, youthful skin.

*    Pomegranate to soften your skin. A glass of natural, pure pomegranate juice is great, but try to have at least a cup of pomegranate seeds - not just the juice. This fruit is packed with Vitamin C. The juice in pomegranate seeds contains both ellagic acid and punic alagin. Ellagic acid is a compound that fights damage from free radicals. Punic alagin is a super nutrient that helps the body to preserve collagen. Collagen is the connective tissue that makes your skin look younger, smoother and soft.

*    Olive Oil for a healthy glow. Have at least one tablespoon of olive oil a day. Olive Oil has "good fat" and also contains heart healthy omega-3s, which improve your circulation, leaving skin rosy and supple.

*    Watermelon for a dewy complexion. Eat as much as you like of this healthy, sweet fruit. Watermelon is rich in Vitamin C, potassium and lycopene - ultimate antioxidants - which help to regulate the balance of water and nutrients in cells. Hydration is the secret to vibrant, healthy, youthful looking skin and this super food secret is the key to unlock your inner beauty.

*    Blueberries to smooth fine lines. Blueberries are truly a super food. They contain more fibre and antioxidants than any other food. Eating at least half a cup daily to give your skin protection from skin damaging free radicals that come from over-exercising, emotional stress and too much sun exposure. Blueberries prevent cell-structure damage that can lead to fine lines, wrinkles and loss of skin firmness.

*    Green Tea to diminish brown spots. Drink at least one to two cups per day. Not only is this healthy brew great for your diet and boosting your metabolism, it contains "catechins" - an effective compound for preventing premature ageing and damaging effects of sun damage. Green Tea is rich in antioxidants that fight off free radical damage and may reverse the effects of ageing.

*    Cold-water fish to reduce redness. Eat six, 6oz. portions of salmon, sardines or mackerel per week. Cold-water fish naturally contain omega-3 fatty acids which strengthen skin-cell membranes, and in turn help to hydrate the skin. Adding supplements to your diet will also help with inflammation such as eczema, rosacea and psoriasis.

*    Spinach & kale for skin firming. Eat your green veggies daily! These two super foods contain vital phytonutrients also referred to as antioxidant compounds that help guard against damage from the sun. Try to have at least three cups per week of spinach or kale. These two leafy greens are loaded with beta- carotene and lutein. These two important nutrients have shown to improve skin elasticity and firmness.

The Worst Saturday!

Aha! 19 December 2009 was the worst Saturday to me, so far! I've had worst birthday ever, last year, and now, The Worst Sat! Wanna know what happened? Let's hear my story on the worst day....

First, me and my elder sister wanted to go to Mid Valley for the education fair. We took the bus from the house to KLCC. Thinking that the bus, going to Mid Valley will arrive shortly after we went down the first bus, we waited for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. My sister had lost her patience, so she stopped one of the buses and ask whether there's a bus heading to Mid Valley. I was surprised to hear that RapidKL had terminate the service from KLCC to Mid Valley. We were frustrated and WET!( It was raining heavily that time). So, we decided to end our frustration and take Putra to KL Sentral, then interchange onto the KTM train.
God knows, at the KTM, there were millions of people, mainly foreigners! This was the first time I boarded onto a KTM since 10 years ago. So, I was surprised to see so many people waiting for the train to arrive in another 30 minutes time. When the train arrived, people were rushing into it, as usual. The worst part is, they are so inconsiderate! They won't want to move in, even a little bit in, because they wanted to stay near the door? That thinking is so not practical! Thank God the train masters were there to shout at them, if not I would have to wait for another 30 minutes. I wouldn't want to board KTM train ever again!
We had finally arrived. We had fun at the exhibition, yea. I've got alot of infos from the engineering side. But, currently still thinking about it. Let's hear the story after the exhibition...
We were walking towards the ticket counter. Guess what we saw? Long waiting queues of people~~~! Aha! There goes another disaster. What my sis did was. She went to the machine and try to buy 2 tickets. It turn out that the machine doesn't work well, so she managed to get one ticket and she asked me to try using cents. After a while of queuing up, I managed to get a ticket for myself, yeay! We walked downstairs to wait for train and..... Millions of people are waiting for the KTM! We didn't want to wait for the KTM again, so we decided to go out and take the bus instead. So what if we bought the ticket already! I plan to keep it anyway, as a souvenir. XD!  Once we were walking towards the bus stop, there was the bus! See, the bus is always faster than the trains!

The moral of the story. Don't ever board a KTM train and always be sure to ask bus drivers about the buses of the destination you are heading to. The government should always monitor the public transport, as it is important for the nation and its people! I think my dad should be the transportation minister, because he could most definitely manage a transportation department! I have faith in my dad! I give the nation an assurance of my dad's capability! (Proud of the skills that God had given to my dad!)

Finally, the moment I've been waiting for is here!

SPM is over, guys! It started quite well for me, and it ended as I had expected it would... One day before SPM started, 5 little cute baby kittens were born! @.@ My dad said this will bring good luck for my SPM. I thought so too... Hehex XP!

So what's next after SPM? I'm thinking of taking up a part-time job somewhere around KLCC or maybe Great Eastern, because it's easier for me to get there, one bus straight to my work place, that's it! But, the problem is, I don't know what job to apply for. I was thinking of applying for an office admin job or maybe some job that benefits me the most, like a clinical assistant... I need both the experience and the money! I wanna buy lots and lots of things that I've been holding back of buying, because of SPM! Now is the right time for me to enjoy all the money I've saved for since Form 1!

I am keen of furthering my studies in the field of engineering... I hope someday I could stand next to F1 stars like Seb and Lewis, fixing their F1 cars! Insya-Allah this dream could be mine to hold! But wait, my dad really wants me to be a medical doctor or at least a dental surgeon... How could I crush his high hopes for me?? See, now I'm totally confused! What I'll do is, wait for a scholarship, and when offers come, I'll do Tahajud prayers, and then I'll decide from there on...

For the time being, I'll enjoy to the max, because I ain't going to go through any textbook for this meantime...Let's hang out pals! Let's go for movies and shopping! @.@!

Things You Didn't Know About Drinking Water! (from HSI Daily)

8 x 8

Recognize that equation? It's the widely-touted recommendation for water intake: at least eight glasses per day, eight ounces per glass.

But when a couple of University of Pennsylvania (UP) researchers in the US, reviewed studies that investigated myths surrounding the 8 x 8 advice, they were surprised to find that there's no known source for the recommendation.

And they're not the first to discover a cold trail.

A few years ago, Dr. Heinz Valtin, of Dartmouth College went looking for scientific evidence to support the 8 x 8 dogma. In the August 2002 issue of American Journal of Physiology, Dr. Valtin wrote: "I have found no scientific reports concluding that we all must 'drink at least eight glasses of water a day.' On the contrary, there are publications that state the opposite."

The UP team took Dr. Valtin's work a step further. Actually, four steps further ...

Four busted water myths

All quotes below are taken from the UP report, published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. (For those who skipped medical school, nephrology is the branch of medicine that focuses on kidney health.)

MYTH ONE: Increased water intake helps remove toxins from the kidneys.

FACT: Water does have some impact on substances cleared from the kidneys, but "current data are insufficient to assess the clinical significance of these observations." One study found that increased water intake actually lowered a type of filtration rate used to measure kidney function.

MYTH TWO: Increased water intake curbs appetite by increasing satiety.

FACT: "There is surprisingly little evidence regarding this issue. None of these studies makes clear whether drinking a large volume of fluid over the course of a day will decrease the number of ingested calories."

MYTH THREE: Increased water intake improves skin tone.

FACT: "One study suggested ingestion of 500 ml of water increases indices of capillary blood flow in the skin. To summarize the conclusions of other more exhaustive reviews: There is no clear evidence of benefit from drinking increased amounts of water."

MYTH FOUR: Increased water intake prevents headaches.

FACT: Only one trial was found that examined the effects of water on headaches. When 15 migraine patients were randomly assigned to increase water intake or placebo for 12 weeks, patients in the water group had a small but statistically insignificant drop in the number of hours with headache. Based on this result, the authors note that the water/headache-prevention link deserves further research.

Back to the source

Meanwhile, Dr. Valtin believes he knows where the 8 x 8 myth got started.

The Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) of the National Research Council recommends an intake of one millilitre of water for each food calorie ingested. For most people, this adds up to about 64 to 80 ounces of water per day. But the FNB recommendation also states that most of that water intake is achieved when eating prepared foods. So when the FNB recommendations were originally released, maybe someone missed that additional detail and jumped to the 8 x 8 conclusion.

That's Dr. Valtin's theory, and he's sticking to it.

Great Song With Great Meaning!
